I bought the drive a year ago even though it was not specifically for a MAC. Plugged it in, ignored internal folders, initialized via the MAC utility and it works perfectly. I use it to download necessary files for travel and as a photographer, all photos as a backup. Great size at 1TB. Excellent value. Very reliable.

I don't know if it is just the Toshiba website but this item needs customer support. I had a hard time finding the driver and on a mac when plugged in you can read but not write to the drive. It requires an NTFS driver. None of this is apparent or easy to access. Also the cable is poorly designed and becomes loose and the drives loses connectivity. This happened once and I spent a couple hours recovering the drive. All together for the price I am very happy with this device.

When you plug the drive to your Mac and open it, you will find folders that prompt you to install software. Installing this software made my drive incompatible with Time Machine. I suggest you skip opening any folders and not install any software. I un-installed the software. Just plug the drive, open Time Machine preferences, chose the new drive, then back-up. The folders were a diversion for me. Have fun stormin the castle

It's not only me having lots of troubles running the disk in Yosemite. It might be the fault of Mac (but there are other hardware providers selling backup drives that run with no problems). But in any case nothing is working. This error seems to be generic - the drive doesn't show in finder and can't be erased or accessed. It varies. Different people have different problems on different macs w Yosemite. If you want to waste countless hours trying to make it work - try this disk with Yosemite, NOT recommended!

Worked fine with my macbook pro until upgrade to yosemite. now my macbook pro won't even recognize the drive. there are no driver updates or fixes that talk about this. i already have tons of data on the external hard drive but can no longer access it! so all the suggestions about reformatting are stupid and aren't fixes. address this!!!!
